Josephine Teresa Whelan
Josephine Teresa Whelan was born on the 25 December, 1878, in Ballynahone, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
Her parents were Paul Whelan and Bridget Golden.
The last born of all the children, Josephine attended the National schools of Ireland like the rest of them before her.
At the age of Nineteen she travelled aboard the 'Ethiopia' with her sister Mary headed for Ellis Island to start a new life in the USA.
She arrived on the 14 September, 1896, with only one bag of luggage to her name.
As of yet I do not have Josephine on the US census but I do know that she stayed in New York the whole time that she was in the states.
Her Naturalisation dated 1913 states that she was residing at 57 West 111 Street, New York. Then in 1915 on a ship log her sister-in-law was travelling aboard (Cecilia Whelan) it stated that Cecilia was going to Josephine's residence at Charles Building, 331 Madison Ave, New York.
The last thing I have is a death notice in the New York Times with information on her death that reads - Josephine. T. Whelan, who died 22 May 1964. She was the sister of the late Msgr. Patrick Whelan, Rev John J. Whelan, and Peter, and was survived by 4 nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Gleason funeral home, 10-25 150th St., Whitestone. Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Luke's R.C. Church. Internment St. Mary's Cemetery, Yonkers, New York.
